ABOUT THE THERAPIST
Christina E. Kowalski
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Welcome! I’m Christina E. Kowalski, a licensed therapist specializing in trauma therapy and EMDR. I work with adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or impacted by unresolved past experiences. My goal is to help you safely process what you’ve been carrying so you can move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and emotional balance.
In my private practice, I take a compassionate, trauma-informed approach with a strong emphasis on EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), including Attachment-Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR), a specialized approach developed by Laurel Parnell that emphasizes safety, resourcing, and the healing of early relational trauma. I integrate a range of evidence-based and insight-oriented approaches, tailoring therapy to your unique needs while combining deep trauma work with practical tools for managing daily life.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts from Rhode Island College and my Master’s in Social Work from Adelphi University, and I have been providing therapy since 2015. Throughout my career, I have worked with diverse populations across a range of clinical settings, experiences that continue to inform my work today. My background includes inpatient psychiatric care, where I supported individuals with complex mental health needs, as well as work as a crisis therapist, providing immediate support and stabilization during periods of acute distress. I have also worked as a therapist and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, providing emotional support in the aftermath of trauma. Additionally, my experience in a hospital neurology unit included guiding patients and families through complex medical situations while addressing safety concerns and strengthening my understanding of the connection between neurological health, trauma, and emotional well-being.
I often incorporate a holistic, mind-body approach to support healing on multiple levels. This includes mindfulness, meditation, grounding techniques, and emotional regulation skills to help you feel more present and in control of your internal experience. I also draw attention to the connection between emotional health, the nervous system, and overall well-being, including supportive lifestyle factors such as nutrition and daily routines that can help stabilize mood and support recovery. Therapy with me is a collaborative process grounded in trust, where you can explore your experiences at your own pace and begin to create meaningful, lasting change.
